Your BBB launched a new method for rating companies, including BBB Accredited Businesses.

All companies in the BBB’s national and local databases are now assigned a letter grade. Every business is rated anywhere from A+ to F.

To see it in action, click on "Check Out a Business or Charity", enter the name of the business for which you are searching, and you’ll find the company’s BBB Reliability Report with a corresponding letter grade.

There is a link next to the letter grade that can be clicked on to obtain additional information including an explanation of how the rating was determined.

Although there are multiple variables that went into the assigning of the grade, below are some of the most important criteria:

  • The category of industry, some categories are areas for concern, such as advance fee loans
  • A company’s time in business
  • Its complaint history
  • Adherence to licensing and registration requirements
  • The existence of government action
  • Compliance with the BBB’s advertising review process

BBBs across the country made this change in response to feedback from consumers and businesses telling us they would like to see more information in our reliability reports.
