Join your Better Business Bureau, Bestway Disposal, KKTV and Mobile Record Shredders for a free document shredding day on Friday,  May 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. It will be held at the Freedom Financial Expo Center, 3650 North Nevada Avenue, in Colorado Springs.

Known as “Letter Rip!” Day, the event was created in 2005 to give the public an opportunity to safely dispose of personal and financial documents as a means to prevent identity theft. The public is invited to bring as many as five boxes of documents. Plastics, cardboard, magazines, and files more than ½ inch thick cannot be accepted. Those who wish to bring more than five boxes will be charged $5 per each additional box and proceeds will benefit your BBB Foundation's scholarship program.

Blue Star Recyclers will also be on hand for free electronics recycling. They will accept almost any item that plugs into a wall. They can not accept refrigerators, air conditioning units, weed whackers, lawn mowers or anything that runs on fuel or any sort of chemical.

There is a fee for the following electronic items:

  • To remove a hard drive from a computer and have it shredded is $5 per hard drive.
  • All monitors are $10 each.
  • All televisions are $1 per inch for the horizontal measurement of the TV.
